Rep. Maffei Annonces Central New York Veterans Survey

Statement

Date: July 24, 2014
Location: Syracuse, NY

U.S. Representative Dan Maffei today released a comprehensive survey to veterans across the 24th District seeking input on their experiences as a veteran and the quality of VA care and benefits they are receiving.

"Our veterans have served our country with honor, and they deserve the very best care and benefits," said Rep. Maffei. "This survey will help identify the unique issues facing veterans in Central New York. It is important for me to continue hearing directly from our veterans, and I encourage all veterans across the 24th District to share their concerns and thoughts about ways we can better serve them."

"In order for our elected officials to have a positive impact on veterans issues, it is imperative that they have a first-hand understanding of the current needs and challenges facing the veterans in our community," said John Powers, who serves as chair of Rep. Maffei's Veterans Advisory Council. "This particular effort to collect additional feedback from our local veterans will provide a valuable tool for identifying the unique issues facing those veterans, as well as evaluating current federal policy as it relates to veteran services. This proactive outreach effort is consistent with Rep. Maffei's past record of making veteran advocacy one of his priorities, both in terms of casework and legislation."

"I applaud Rep. Maffei for this effort," said Dr. Nick Armstrong, Senior Director of Research and Policy, Syracuse University Institute for Veterans and Military Families. "It's vital that our elected leadership take the time to connect with veterans in our community, hear their challenges, and understand their views on the quality of care and benefits they rightfully earned."

Rep. Maffei's office worked with Clear Path for Veterans, the Syracuse University Institute for Veterans and Military Families, and his Veterans Advisory Council to draft the Central New York veterans survey, which is public and may be found here. Rep. Maffei sent letters to veterans across the 24th District encouraging them to fill out the survey.
